Ah, yes.
The fun part of writing, or “record keeping” is getting to backtrack and see if you’ve done what you aspired to do.
And this is why we, or rather I, do this. I know that aside from some odd hits from from really weird places (likely bots – especially the Boardman one), noone is really reading this. So, it’s indeed “I.”
So what happened in July 2018?
Well, for June (the post I wrote in July), I wrote that I wasn’t as productive. Wrong. Turns out I was. But it was the bias of recency playing because I wasn’t productive in July.
Site Stuff
Site #1
Posted 4 articles. On par with June’s 4. And the traffic? 261,911 pageviews for July, up by 0.64% and 233,370 uniques, up by 0.76%. Not much.
Also, I should note that I use the Yoast SEO plugin for this site and its bloat has been weighing my poor site down like your gut after an all-you-can-eat buffet. So, I switched over to another SEO plugin…but that resulted in dips in my traffic and referred accounts. So… here we are, back again.
— Goalwise. Yes, I think I’m there with referring 50 accounts a day. But as mentioned, knocking off that plugin for a bit messed with my results. Hm.
Site #2
2 articles compared to last month’s 3 and the previous month’s 1.
So, this is where I got lazy.
And the stats? Down!
Goals? Not hitting them.
But now’s a good time to stock up more articles and request more from writers.
Traffic wise, I’m not sure what happened, but something definitely did happen in July.
But looking at July 1st to July 12d versus August 1st to August 12th, we seem to be okay. Slightly okay.
So there’s one problem so far.
Another problem I encountered was… a few of my articles, the kind that bring in the dosh, have been getting pummeled traffic-wise. And this, of course, affects earnings. 4 articles to be specific. I’ve already updated one to see if it will recover in traffic. The results?
Too early to tell.
If this works out, I have a business case to write up for all of you readers out in Boardman.
Also, I mentioned this in the last post:
Another experiment I’m trying is: having different writers write articles for the same topic. Then, I place those 2 articles onto sites #1 and #2. Technically, it’s not duplicate content because the writers end up writing differently. The goal? See if I can rank both and have them compete against each other. Why? If google searcher doesn’t pick site #1, he’ll pick #2 and that’s a win-win!
No proof that it works. Or will any time soon. Plus, Site #2 is far too young to have any SEO power. And yeah, let’s keep trucking.
Books I’m reading
— The Elon Musk book – finished. If you want to download my notes, click here. PDF format. They’re just lines of note that I found interesting. If you’re wondering how, why or what sorcery I used to whip this up… it’s the power of the Kindle.
Anyway, do I recommend the book? Absolutely. What did I get out of it? Well, I’m a fan of doing things and getting them done. And homeboy has been knocking out those home-runs with PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX and whatnot. That’s the kind of thinking I want to be surrounded by – if not with friends (friends prefer to drink beer so I can’t win there), then with books.
— Triggers by Joe Sugarman. Joe is a well-known, veteran copywriter, and me being a copywriter… well you do the math. This is the first marketing book that I’m reading on the Kindle and am taking notes. I should publish them in the next article.
— Basic Physics: A Self-Teaching Guide. Why? Well marketing aside, I sucked in science in school. I did well in school, mind you. Maybe that’s because I majored in business, ha! But, science… and the ability to understand the world, is important. It’s also important to sweat and struggle as you read things that remind you of how dumb you are. And hence why I’m going at this.
Other books to read:
— Perennial Seller by Ryan Holiday
— Discipline Equals Freedom by Jocko Willink
— That damn affiliate marketing book that’s all in Japanese
Persisting (Helpful) Thoughts of July 2018
Nothing wise.
Goals for August 2018
Last month I wrote…
– Affiliate Marketing book all in Japanese: do 1 page a day.
– 6 articles for site #1, 4 for site #2, and a book-related article for this site.
I ended up doing 4 for site 1 and 3 for site 2. But the book-related one, I did. The kindle one.
So, while I didn’t hit ’em all, I got things done along the way.
For Aug 2018, I’ll do 4 per site.
